Fave photographer of the month July ’13
Abandoned School by Leszek Wasiolka
Urban photography has always mesmerised me. Finding deserted locations with vast amounts of character is, not only hard but, an execution of patience. Our fave photographer this month has found some abandoned beauties … Ladies and gentlemen, introducing Leszek Wasiolka.
Hailing from Katowice, in Poland, the pictures captured by Leszek show great commitment and patience. Researching, locating, setting up, waiting then snapping. Looking at one of his photos, immediately sends your imagination into overdrive and you find yourself falling deep into the story within the frame. What happened here? Who walked those steps in the past? Who used to sit there? You just continually want to know more about the history that lies underneath the surface.
I find myself examining every square centimeter of each of his photos, perhaps looking for clues to help me answer all the questions in my head.
His composition and use of soft colours or black and white, make each shot a tale about history. Even if you make your own story up, using the picture as a foundation will always ensure a fantastic tale.
Leszek, if we ever cross paths, let’s find one of these places and have some beers there and share ghost stories. Love your work buddy.
