Fave Photographer of the Month August ’14
In t his episode of ‘Fave Photographer of the Month’ we, once again, bring you someone who is quite possibly not from this planet. His colours, vibrant; his lighting, precise. The interesting poses, backdrops and composition all come together to create one, perfect picture.
Ladies and gentlemen, this month’s fave photographer is … Marvin Joseph.
Hailing from Sydney, Australia but now living in New York. Marvin has gone from strength-to-strength. This has recently seen him delve into motion pictures and film direction.
Having worked with Marvin previously, there’s an element about him that most creative geniuses have. Whilst in his presence, you can sense that his mind doesn’t switch off and is constantly working at 100%. He sees things most don’t see and when he goes off into these “Eureka Moments”, all you can do is just go-with-the-flow because you know something awesome will be created.
His work is like crossing surrealism with perfection. Sometimes you look at his work and think to yourself, “what the hell is going on here” but you just can’t stop looking at it. His work draws you in, makes you think and then you end up just sitting back and saying, “wow, that’s amazing”.
Be sure to check out his work, it really is out-of-this-world.
We asked Marvin our 3 questions. Check out what he has to say.
1. If you could shoot anyone or any place, who or where would you choose?
I would like to shoot the first human being that evolved. Of course their environment would be an ideal place to shoot.
2. We have a saying at 36Moments, “It’s not about the camera man, it’s about the Cameraman” … Do you agree?
Everyone who has a Camera these days calls them selves a photographer. That’s their prerogative. In short…the Cameraman only really captures the story they see in the present moment. So yes…we are in the mercy of the ‘Cameraman’ to tell how it is in his present perspective.
3. What preparation do you do before a shoot? Do you picture certain shots in your head beforehand or just go-with-the-flow?
Everything is about preparation when shooting a scene that is choreographed. Then all you need is One Click. But when we are in the moment documenting life, then prepare to be a witness to the present moment…go with the flow. There are certain unexplainable ways occurring when I shoot…I have to find the balance of what I perceive in my mind…and what is really happening at the moment. These days I do my best to maintain Authenticity.
Marv, we need to catch up and have a few cheeky bevvies. Love your work.
